“In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer

We often hear that gratitude is the key to living a happier and more satisfying life. But what exactly does gratitude mean in an age where it has seemingly become yet another buzzword just like mindfulness or meditation?

Simply put, gratitude is an attitude of appreciation for the people and things that we have in our lives.  It’s about being thankful for the little things and recognising how much you have been given. Practicing gratitude allows you to transfer your attention from what is absent in your life to the important people, things and moments that already exist.

It might be easy to be grateful after a good workout or with a full night of sleep but exactly how does one stay grateful in those moments when the Wi-Fi just suddenly stopped working before your online submission deadline, when there is seemingly endless construction work happening next door or when your rescue dog takes a dump on your favourite Persian carpet?

Our lack of gratitude stems from our inability to place our lives in perspective and by focusing too much on our own petty concerns and problems its no wonder we start taking everything for granted.

The following 5 videos will help repel you out of this state of self-concern and to provide some perspective and a basis for gratitude towards life.
